Thoughts on Motherhood & Entrepreneurship in light of Mother's Day '24
"We are business owners but we are mothers first. We are often living in a constant juggle of lifts, lunch boxes, jewels, house admin, meetings and the list goes on… Motherhood is often measured in lists, mostly not ticked off by the end of the day.
It’s the sticky hands and brightly coloured outfits that have made us let go of our minimalist ways at home because of the pure joy they bring to our children. Who would have thought that our houses are littered with primary colours everywhere you look instead of the Scandinavian aesthetic we perfected in a different life.
It’s the ‘wow mommy, so pretty’ when our babies look at our new products. Or when our 10 year old gives us tips on how to better hold a camera for videos. Where does the time go?
We built this business with our families in mind. Hoping to not miss too many firsts because of work commitments (which we understand is a privilege not afforded to many and one we don’t take for granted). But, having our children being a part of what we do and watching us grow this brand might be the most important part to us. That, as mothers, we can work, be there for them and hopefully teach them the value of having a passion and purpose outside of being a mother at the same time. To teach them that motherhood is multifaceted and that you can be both hands-on and ambitious.
Sadie + Jean is ultimately a tribute to our mothers, grandmothers and children. What a precious privilege motherhood is. We wouldn’t change it for the world!" - Nikki & Ilana
